All about raccoons, squirrels, food plates and morning clean

Hey everybody!

Today it's aldeady one week since I left Germany but it feels like infinity. My work at Critter Care Wildlife Station demands so much effort and it's really, really hard work. But the animals and all they're giving back to me is worth every hour of missed sleep.
But let's start at the beginning and my daily "routine" (even if you can't really call it routine because it changes everday). My day starts at 7am with feeding my three baby squirrels (Eichhörnchen) with a bottle. They're soo incredible cute! Unbelievable :)). After feeding them, the raccoons (Waschbären) are already waiting for their breakfast at 8am. At 9 o'clock all volunteers, interns and supervisors meet up in the kitchen to talk about the daily to do list. Afterwards, you either start with the morning clean (scrubbing and sweeping the whole house), cooking chicken or eggs for the raccoons, preparing food plates, doing the laundry or cleaning "your" raccoon cage. That means again: scrubbing and sweeping. And is not that simple, when all these cute little raccoons are running around everywhere and trying to play with your boots, your hair or the buckets...While cleaning the cages, it's again time to feed my little babies and serving lunch for the raccoons at 12pm. After caring of the animals, it's time to care about myself and having my own lunch. In the afternoon, we have to work trough the daily to do list and doing stuff like giving vaccinations to the raccoons or coyotes, releasing some animals into the wilderness, going grocery shopping or checking the food donations. At 3pm and 4pm is feeding and cleaning time again so that everything's shining and sparkling for the next day and then we're normally off around 5pm, depending on how many animals we have and how much work we have to do. And the only things I am looking for after such a hard day are dinner, shower and my bed!
But the animals would not be the animals, if they would be satisfied until the next morning. Noooo! We have to feed the raccoons at 8pm for the last time but as I already mentioned my day isn't over yet because my squirrels need to be feeded all four hours, even at night! That means getting up, feeding, sleeping, getting up, feeding, sleeping and so on and so on...until it's 7am and the new day starts.

Even though we have so much to do, it's fun and the people are all very lovely and nice and we're having a good time together!

That's all for today and see you soon!

Kisses,
Lena ♡
